St Patrick's Day Assembly

St Patrick's Day Assembly ☘️ 🇮🇪 ☘️

Primary 1 have done us proud again! This week, we hosted a St Patrick’s Day Assembly for our Primary 1 families and the rest of the school. The children have enjoyed learning about the Patron Saint of Ireland and exuded confidence when teaching their audience about St Patrick. They put so much effort into the assembly and Miss Devenney and Caroline are so proud of each and every one of them - their confidence and their ability to speak in front of an audience has grown massively since our Christmas Play.

Well done Primary 1!

A special thank you to Mrs Rice for taking the photos of us all in action!

We have been exploring our number bonds to 10 this week using our tens frames and compare bears. We had to have a sing-a-long to ‘There were ten in the bed’ to help us commit our facts to memory.

Farm Safety Week 🚜 🐑 🐄 🧑🏻‍🌾

Farm Safety Week 🚜 🐑 🐄 🧑🏻‍🌾

We had a huge tractor visit our school along with two farmers who taught us all about farm safety. They also taught us about the story of the Good Shepherd and what it means to be one of God’s flock.

It was amazing to see how knowledgeable our Primary 1 children were - their parents and grandparents are showing them the ropes in how to run the farms safely!

Spring had Sprung! 🌸🌼🌱

Spring had Sprung! 🌸🌼🌱

This week, we explored our outdoor environment for signs of Spring. We also made some bug hotels for the insects who are hatching and coming out of hibernation. Some of our children even made a den for a bear and then tried to figure out how many people could fit inside with the help of some of our Primary 2 children. Team work makes the dream work!

We have been learning about 2D shapes throughout the week and have learnt a lot of new vocabulary. We completed lots of different activities but our favourite was building shape pictures.

Pancake Tuesday 🥞

Pancake Tuesday 🥞

Pancake day was a real treat in Primary 1! The children helped their teacher whip up a batch of fluffy pancake and chose their own toppings. They were encouraged to try some different fruits too to see if they liked them. We’re looking forward to next Pancake Tuesday already!

Primary 1 were joined by Primary 4 for some shared reading on World Book Day. The children shared their favourite stories and listened to Miss Devenney read some of her favourite books too. Everyone made a fantastic effort with their costumes - a huge thank you to all our parents for that too!

SNOW IS FALLING ☃️ ❄️ 🧤

SNOW IS FALLING ☃️ ❄️ 🧤

We made the most of our snowy weather in Primary 1. Lots of fun was had building snowmen, throwing snowballs at Caroline and Miss Devenney, making snow angels and finding huge chunks of ice to smash on the ground! As cold as it is, we would love the snow to stick around for longer as we have had lots of fun!

It's Christmas!

It's Christmas! 🎄🎅🏻🎄🤶🏻

We’ve had a busy few days with Christmas Nativity and our Christmas Dinner! Jason McCartan took these fantastic snaps during our Nativity play on Wednesday - it was fantastic to get some photos of us all in action as we didn’t have time to take a photo ourselves!

Thank you to all of you for your support in the run up to the play and for your support on the day.

It was great to celebrate with a feast from Lorraine, Lorraine and Wendy today during our Christmas dinner!

November fun

🍂🌿🌞

November fun 🍂🌿🌞

We enjoyed our first week of November. The weather has been very kind to us as we enjoyed our Daily Mile with Aimee on Thursday and our outdoor play on Friday. Hopefully we’ll get to enjoy lots more dry days as the month progresses! During outdoor play, we enjoyed some fun with the dry leaves and learnt how to climb the tree stumps and get ourselves back down again safely.

On Thursday afternoon, we had our local Ulster Herald Photographer visit P1 - Jason McCartan. Jason captured a beautiful photo of our Primary 1 pupils in a matter of seconds and put smiles on all our boys and girls faces with high fives and fist bumps. No doubt you’ll all be racing out to buy the paper next Thursday afternoon to have a copy of this for years to come!

Red and White Day Celebrations!

Red and White Day Celebrations! 🔴⚪

Week 5 in Primary 1 was a busy one! Miss Devenney needs to take more photos! We learnt all about the numbers 1, 2 and 3 and how these numbers look in different forms.

We celebrated our Drumquin football players’ successes with our red and white day on Friday and were inspired by our past pupils to always try our best and to never give up even when something is difficult.

September’s Pupils of the Week!

Congratulations to our pupils of the week for September! These three pupils have followed our class rules showning excellent listening skills, resilience in learning and have displayed lovely manners in P1 this year. They received their certificates at our weekly assemblies and also got to choose a special treat from from Mrs Donnelly’s prize box.

A busy week!

🎨🍂😊

A busy week! 🎨🍂😊

This week has been a very busy one in Primary 1! And Miss Devenney was so busy that she didn’t get to take as many photos as usual – apologies! Have a look at our patterns and our artwork this week. The children have also decided that outdoor play is much more fun when there are puddles to jump in. I think you will all agree that September has been very busy and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for October!

Building, Writing, Creating and so much more!

🧱✍🏻🤝🏻

Building, Writing, Creating and so much more! 🧱✍🏻🤝🏻

We have been practicing our letters this week by writing in sand, using play dough, our foam mats and writing them on the whiteboards. We have also been doing lots of Autumn art and we went on another adventure to find some conkers and sticks for our next art project. The children have also been fascinated with building walls for Humpty Dumpty this week. There was lots of trial and error but we learnt that team work makes the dream work and if we work together, we get the job done!

Another week of learning and fun in Primary One!

Another week of learning and fun in Primary One! 🍂🌿🔍

We have been sorting items into groups, making matching pairs and learning about how to find the odd one out in a group of items. Mrs Gallogly also entertained us all with her wonderful singing voice and even made up some nursery rhymes on the spot at the request of the children. Our class met Fred Frog who is helping us learn our sounds. We got to play with the gigantic parachute during our PE lesson and on Friday we put on our wellies and wetsuits and explored our school grounds looking for signs of Autumn. We ended our week with a Friday dance party where the children showed off their dance moves!
