Flavahan’s Round One
On Friday 8th November the cross country team travelled to Castlederg High School to tackle round one of the Flavahan’s competition. It certainly was an exciting event, with over 20 schools from the Fermanagh and Omagh area taking part. We had children participating in the fun run event and the scoring races for both the boys and girls.
First up was the girls fun run. Cara Duffy ran the course with ease, cruising from around 400m to take and hold the lead until the finish line, finishing in 1st place 🥇. Hot on her heels were Cara McCaffrey 3rd and Ryleigh McCrossan running with great athleticism to claim 3rd and 4th place respectively. Holly Lynch was next in followed by a wall of navy and blue crossing the line in the shape of Clara O’Kane, Chloe Mimnagh and Siofra Donnelly to take 8th, 9th and 10th. Bringing the team home with respectible times of 6:36 and 6:37 were Orla O’Kane and Rosa Hodeburg.
Next up was the boys fun run. Tyler Meenan led the team home in 18th place. Marc McCallion was the next in followed by Joseph McCanny, Ruairi O’Kane, Conaill O’Kane and Andrew McLaughlin. For many of the boys, this was their first Flavahan’s event and they have gained great experience for the next day out.
The girls scoring race was next with Caoimhe Mullan running with great determination throughout to secure the bronze medal 🥉. Her sister, Dearbhla, showed true grit to come in just four places behind, despite only being P5. Katie O’Kane recorded a wonderful time of 5:15 to take 10th place, followed closely by Kaelah and Hallie McLaughlin in 12th and 22nd, with Maeve Mc Laughlin finishing strong to take the team to the top of the leader board for round one.
The boys stepped up next to compete in the scoring race. Joey Farrell led the team home in 19th, with younger brother Ben home next for the team. The boys from Primary 5 were next across, led by Enda O’Neill, followed by Eoghan Mimnagh and Edward O’Kane. Kieran Gormley completed the race next bringing all boys in under a time of 5:40.
A great day out for all and we look forward to Round 2 in December.

Flavahan’s Cross Country Competition Round Three 🥇🥉
Tuesday 30th January we set off for Dungannon Park. Conditions were perfect- a little frost meant the ground was heavy, however, that didn’t seem to stop our young runners. We had a very successful day out. Up first, were our fun runners, running the same 1400m track as our runners in the boys and girls races. Cara had a super race, placing 4th, a promising athlete for our team next year. Tyler and Conaill placed 61st and 62nd in a field of 100 runners. The boys are only Y5 yet and also have a promising future ahead in competitive races.
The boys race was contested by Daithi, first home for the team in 24th. He was followed by Robbie Diver McCauley in 46th, Beau Devlin in 50th, Matthew O’Neill in 53rd and Tom Conlin in 57th.
Our girls were on top form, claiming two podium spots. Ciara McCusker was 1st 🥇with Caoimhe Mullan in 3rd 🥉. Melissa Lynch had a superb run, placing 6th, followed closely by Holly Lynch in 16th, Katie O’Kane was 22nd and Aoife Agnew finished in 25th. This blistering team performance placed them on top of the leaderboard and has (hopefully 🤞) earned them a place in the finals in Mallusk on Friday 23rd February.
Thank you to all the parents who came to cheer us on and offer support with pinning numbers and supervision!
