Gaelic

GAA is very popular here in St Joseph’s! Our boys and girls participate in training and matches with great enthusiasm, commitment and skill. Mr. Kelly trains the boys and Paul McCusker trains the girls every Thursday/Friday from 3pm-4pm. We proudly compete in the Cumann na mBunscoil Indoor football competitions for both girls and boys.

Well done to both our boys and girls teams today as they both qualified for the Cumann na mBunscol Finals Day for the second successive year.

Both teams topped their sections following a very closely contested and competitive morning of football against excellent opposition from St. Patrick's Newtownstewart, St, Columba's Clady and Gaelscoil Ui Dhochartaigh. Some of the football on display from all teams wouldn't have looked out of place in Croke Park!

Both teams will now travel to Garvaghy next week for County Finals Day.

A word of thanks to Mr. McGlone for from St. Patrick's for hosting and refereeing this morning.

This morning our boys team competed in the group stages of the Cumann na mBunscol Indoor Gaelic Competition at Healy Park in Omagh.  All the boys acquitted themselves very well, with some excellent performance along the way to come joint top of their group after drawing with St. Caireall’s, beating Christ the King and St. Theresa’s Glebe.

Following a tense, but highly entertaining semi-final the boys were unfortunate to fall to late goal from St. Teresa’s Loughmacrory on a 1-0 scoreline of, despite a great team performance.

St. Joseph's host Gaelic competition 〰️

On Friday 17th June, we hosted a gaelic competition in conjunction with Drumquin Wolfe Tones in McGirr Park.

Sacred Heart Tattyreagh, All Saints Tattysallagh, Roscavey Primary School, St. Dympna’s P.S. Dromore, Holy Family Omagh and our own school, St. Joseph’s competed against each other in boys and girls games.

It was a closely fought competition throughout with Tattyreagh winning the boys shield; Holy Family met St. Joseph’s in the Cup final with Holy Family emerging victorious.

The girls final was between St. Dympna’s Dromore and St. Joseph’s Primary School Drumquin with St. Joseph’s winning the cup.

Thank you to all the schools who attended, to Mr. Kelly for organising and coaching the boys; to Mrs. Treanor for coaching our girls, to our parents for supporting and to the club for lining out pitches, refereeing and providing refreshments.

It was a hugely successful day and we look forward to hosting many more tournaments in years to come.

On Tuesday 22nd March, a number of our footballers went to Fintona to take part in a blitz with schools from different areas. This was the first outing for these children. They represented our school and their club so well. It’s great to be out on the pitch again and we are looking forward to the next day out.
